Transformation Readiness Review
In this initial step in your law firm’s Transformation Readiness Review, I’ll get everyone on the same page about what transformation actually means for your law firm and how it’ll impact daily life. By aligning everyone on the unique role of your law firm’s culture and internal dynamics we’ll lay a strong foundation for future projects. This phase requires close collaboration with your partners to set the stage for a successful journey ahead.
With a strong groundwork in place, we’ll move on to defining specific transformation goals – both short-term and long-term – that fit with your law firm’s unique culture, values, and overall strategy. This phase is all about creating a clear vision for transformation, shaped by the invaluable insights of your partners, and ensuring everyone is fully on board.
In this phase I’ll team up with a few key players, your informal leaders, from your law firm to dive into how things are currently running in areas set for transformation, establishing what I call the “Current Operating Model.” We’ll map out workflows, roles, and tools to ensure everyone understands today’s processes – something that’s much easier with the insights gained from the previous phases. By now, partner involvement can be dialed down, depending on the size and significance of each area to be transformed.
In this key phase, I’ll get your law firm ready to roll with transformation. I’ll assemble a transformation leadership team – usually 1-3 partners along with select internal experts. Together, we’ll map out the “Target Operating Model,” built on your transformation goals and current setup. We’ll define transformation measures and success metrics to track progress throughout the implementation. Plus, we’ll set up a Project Management Office to keep everything on track. The aim? To secure the time, resources, and budget from partners to fuel your law firm’s transformation project.
Transformation Implementation
I’m excited to dive in with the Transformation Leadership Team to bring the Transformation Readiness Review plans to life, supporting the Project Management Office as we move forward. During implementation, I keep an eye on key change triggers, especially in tricky situations, and focus on solutions and targeted communication aligned with partnership goals. With the groundwork from the BASE and ADVANCE modules, we’re set to tackle challenges head-on, and I make sure everyone stays updated with clear, tailored communication.
Second Opinion
I’d be happy to take a look at the setup and progress of your ongoing transformation project and offer some tailored suggestions for quick wins. We’ll identify areas with potential for improvement and outline steps to avoid foreseeable bottlenecks and hold-ups. In most cases, tried-and-true project management methods and straightforward communication tools can make a big impact.
Process Identification, Mapping and Optimizing
Documenting processes calls for solid Business Process Automation tools. Signavio is one option; Lucid is another I’ve had great experiences with. The basic idea is the same across tools, so I’m happy to work with whichever one you prefer. What really matters is accurately mapping workflows and making sure we consider the framework and corresponding interdependencies in which the process operates.
Definition of your Current and Target Operating Models
Beyond simple mapping, I’ll gladly create a full definition of both your Current and Target Operating Models (like in the Transformation Readiness Review), complete with performance metrics and a detailed process manual. My sole focus will be on the transformation piece that zeroes in on processes, whether it’s part of the prep work (like in the Transformation Readiness Review) or needed right in the thick of the project.
